Electric drive typically consists of electric machine and gearbox ( >90% of cases). Both components are located in a common housing (integrated unit) and same power can be achieved with higher speed and less torque (P = w * T). This reduces also the cost for the machine (less magnetic material required). Gearbox reduces speed and increasestorque (high torque required at wheel, wheel does not rotate with 20k rpm).
For Electric machine, due to electromagnetic effects, aradial force waves are exciting the stator structure of the electric machineand a dynamic torque is applied on the rotor-Gearbox-Torque is transmitted through gearcontacts. Due to varying number of gears in contact, the stiffness is notconstant and this induces additional vibrations into the system. Helical gears also induce axialforces, these radial and axial forces in the gearbox are transmitted through the bearings into the housing. Lastly, the vibrations of the housing are a result of the combination of the mentioned electric machine and gearbox excitations.
To achieve high power in combination with a relative small electric machine, these machines operates at very high speedsof 20k+ and more rpm. Due to electromagnetic effects, radial force waves excitethe stator of the machine and additionally they apply a dynamic torque on the rotor.
In this video, you will learn from a PMSM example, which is a fully parametrized electrical machine. The geometrical and load parameters are adjustable via the defined parameters. For the simulation it is recommended to use a Machine Editor Task, which is setting up automatically the necessary solver parameters. In CST component library, there are more than 10 models avaliable, with different winding, slot, magnet types.
